how do i change the icon of the extension back?

Sorry to hear you dislike rainbows. Version 1.1 allows for changing the icon theming. Right-click on the extension and click "Toggle Icon Theming" to revert back to a gray version of the icon. It should be available as soon as the extension is updated.

Doesn't work for FF66 on mint17.3. Says it's a corrupt application.
