Privacy Policy for Simple TTS Reader
Last Updated: [03/13/25]
This Privacy Policy describes how Simple TTS Reader ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our Firefox browser extension ("Add-on").
Information We Do Not Collect:
Simple TTS Reader is designed with your privacy in mind. We DO NOT collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information or any data related to the web content you select for text-to-speech.
How the Add-on Works:
- The Add-on uses the built-in Text-to-Speech (TTS) capabilities provided by your computer's operating system (e.g., macOS, Windows) or your Android device's operating system.
- When you select text and activate the Add-on, the selected text is processed locally by your system's TTS engine to convert it to speech. This text is not sent to us or any third-party servers by the Add-on.
- The Add-on stores your preferences (such as selected voice, speech rate, and pitch) locally on your computer using the browser's standard storage mechanisms. This information is only accessible by the Add-on on your device and is not transmitted elsewhere.
Permissions Used:
- "contextMenus": To provide the "Read Aloud" option in the right-click menu for selected text.
- "activeTab": To retrieve the selected text from the current webpage when using the popup's "Read Selected" button.
- "storage": To save your preferred voice, rate, and pitch settings locally.
Third-Party Services:
This Add-on does not integrate with or send data to any third-party cloud services (like Google Cloud TTS or Amazon Polly) for its core functionality. It relies solely on the TTS engines provided by your operating system.
Changes to This Privacy Policy:
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page or our Add-on listing.
