I got the invitation but whenever I go on the relay site it tells me that I need to accept the invitation email - though I accidentally deleted it a while ago. Now I can't access the addon, nor add myself to the waiting list. :(

Edit 1: No way to respond to the dev response below, so adding it here.

Unfortunately I got the referral from a forum, and there's no way to recall where I received it from.

I don't know if the alias is completely randomly generated, but one great feature would be a partially customizable one like customAlias.generatedAlias@domain. Then it would be possible to identify the leaking site when starting receiving spam.

Possibly, but some sites reject email addresses with the site name in the localpart. Still, we'll keep looking into use-cases.
