Try changing the homepage setting by going to Preferences -> Homepage. If you can't find the URLs there, check prefs.js in your profile folder. Unfortunately Firefox may overwrite this setting even without an extension (such as on update) so it is indeed better to use favorites instead of the text field :(

There isn't an explicit warning on install because the purpose of the speed dial is to change those pages, but I will try to make it clearer in the description. Thanks for the suggestion!

This is potentially a great speed dial extension—it allows you to build a custom homepage with a clean design. However, there’s a critical and annoying bug specific to Firefox: the custom background image resets to default unpredictably and frequently. Notably, this doesn’t happen in Chrome. Background images vanish spontaneously after several hours of normal usage. You can reproduce this bug by reloading the speed dial page repeatedly for a minute or two and then relaunching the browser. Latest macOS, latest Firefox, latest version of the extension.

I wish i could move the speed dials around the page, like maybe center them to the top-left corner, and other areas, otherwise yeah this is perfect

I must have installed about 20 different extensions before finding this one. I wanted a VERY SIMPLE homepage that pulls in the bookmarks. This is it. It is INCREDIBLY easy to work with. I hope they keep it going.
