Reviews for Tab Counter
Tab Counter by Perry Naseck

by Cyberknight, 8 years agoIt's about 66KB in size (packed), being the biggest contender (the smallest I've tested is 6.5KB, packed). It uses a timeout to update the badge, what I'm not sure is the best way of doing it (I've seen others using event triggers). It may be configured to show total tabs in all windows, tabs in each window or both (although that last option is not very useful, as there is a limit of how many characters can be displayed on a badge). Nevertheless, it has good options and works fine, using WebExtensions technology and is bootstrapped (no restart required).

posted 8 years agoThanks for reviewing my addon! This addon actually does use event triggers! However, I debounce the events to prevent an overload of updating the badges. This way, when restoring a session or opening lots of tabs at once, the counter doesn't impact the performance of the browser. Also, I apply the badge to each tab individually (as opposed to the default of globally to all tabs and windows) so that if you have two windows on screen, both will always show the right count for their respective window.

Like others have mentioned, 3 digits is a few too few. Can we do 5? I'd request 4 but I'm up to a 5,133 count currently and, well... you know. - Rated 4 out of 5by Secure Fox, 3 months agoWorks but: Only shows 3 characters. The 4th 1,000+ is cut off on the right side. (though 1000 is too many for Firefox anyway). Customization settings would be good improvement.

- Rated 4 out of 5by DolleMarja, a year agoWorks fine. Though with a large number of open tabs/windows the figures shown are truncated. Would be nice if that could be fixed.
Or maybe make the pitch of the figures customizable to fit everything in.
Hovering over the button shows the full numbers in the pop-up, so this is the work-around for the full info. - Rated 5 out of 5by Gay Moist, a year agoworks great, couldn't find it at first (it showed up to the left of my minimize button) but it works perfectly and is simplistic. exactly what i need. you can look at the screenshots on the extensions page for examples. (I shoulda done that first)

I found out why my laptop was running slow when I opened my web browser :) i had many open tabs that i opened long ago - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14019358, 2 years agolove it! I just wish it could handle more than 3 digits, it gets hard to see the count once I have 1000 tabs open

- Rated 5 out of 5by sonofzeus, 3 years agoThanks for making this. After seeing my result I have a feeling an ADHD diagnosis is incoming. I don't think having 2,245 tabs open is normal. My tab session is a few years old. I'll give it to Mozilla, Firefox has not bogged down even a bit.
- Rated 5 out of 5by TweakMan, 3 years agoDoes as it promised !
It's not something that I really need but I like having it to check from time to time.
Extremely lightweight, reports at only 80kb memory on my side and requires no permissions.
Thank you for this great simple addon ! - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17468150, 3 years ago
