Reviews for Simple Tab Groups
Simple Tab Groups by Drive4ik

by Henri, a year agoAs a recent Chrome uBlock Origin refugee, I was looking for something that'd replace chrome's tab groups.
This add-on does a little bit of that, but differently, and in several ways better.
First off, you WILL want to customize your browser toolbar to put the add-on icon to the top left of the app, right before the tabs. It's a much more natural place to use it.
Second, if you're using dark mode, the default icon is hard to see, and you'll have to tweak a config to fix that. It's spelled out in the "about this extension" page.
Third, if you multi-screen, this is MUCH better than chrome tab groups, since it allows you to trivially move tab groups between windows, and therefore screens.
I like that it can sync the tab groups into a bookmark folder.
The default group icons are awkward, but you can replace them with the favicon of any tab within the group, which solves that.
I just installed this a couple hours ago so I'm still wrapping my head around it, but I like it already.
I've got 12 tab groups already. Just don't expect it to be a drop-in replacement for Chrome tab groups. Take the time to wrap your head around the mental model of this add-on, it's worth it.
*Edit, now with more gripes!:
A dozen tabs or so (about 8% of my tabs) get detached from their group on every Firefox restart, which means on every Firefox update for me. I don't know why. It's not the same tabs each time. I tweaked all the settings I could, didn't help. I have to reassign the stray tabs in their proper groups after a restart, which takes entire seconds.
I'm kinda hoping this is going to stop happening on a future update. If I was a little less lazy, I'd probably try to debug it myself.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 19193128, 8 days agoFantastic extension. Makes managing tabs and tab groups a breeze. A few issues:
1. The extension makes backups in my download folder, which is not great since I like to keep my downloads folder clean.
2. Does not yet play well with the new in-built tab grouping feature from Firefox. Hoping this will be resolved soon.
3. The black icon color blends in with my black window color, which makes it nearly impossible to see the button.
4. On first install, the existing tabs don't integrate with the extension and need to be manually moved in.
Those aside, It's such a great extension, easily one of my favourites. Thanks! - Rated 5 out of 5by elsenhell, 9 days ago

Would rate 5, but after the latest Firefox update, the tabs that are not in a group, are not visible at the extension, unless you add them to a group.
So, if you open a new ungrouped tab and close out of Firefox, it disappears, since it is hidden and it is not in a group.
Also, when you close out of Firefox, some tabs, sometimes gets ungrouped, and since you cannot see ungrouped tabs anymore, you got to find them from Firefox's drop down menu, since they are hidden. - Rated 5 out of 5by Alex, 14 days ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Alex Alex, 21 days agoRecently Firefox added its own tab grouping feature that could synergize really well with this extension, but unfortunately there's a bug:
When you create a Firefox group it also creates group collapse button for it, and when you switch to another STG group, it hides the grouped tabs but not that collapse button.
Hope it gets patched, because it's a bit janky and annoying.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Rusty, 25 days agoIn the past week or two I keep losing all my settings for this. I did (belatedly) create a back up .json, however even that, as of today, is not being recognized as valid...
Hoping this is seen and dev, or other users, can offer insight, as this is one of my most valued extensions.
Cheers 🍻

With that being said, I love the add-on and appreciate the QoL improvements it brings to my internet. Can't imagine not having it at this point. - Rated 5 out of 5by aadam21, a month agoThis is THE tab manager I was looking for in Firefox. It took a bit to adjust and I thought I preferred the tab grouping I've used in chromium based browsers. But this is so much cleaner, easier to organize and reason with, and maintain a solid separation of concerns with tab grouping.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 19063784, a month agoI love this extension. It allows me to focus on work one tab group at a time vs. having a million tabs open at once.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Andreusd, 2 months agoFixfox devs should have taken inspiration from this extension instead of copying chrome groups. This extension is truly life changing.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Frank, 2 months agoIf it is working, it is perfect extension. Unfortunately, it does not load in the sidebar. I have to open another sidebar and then open simpletabgroup again and it will load.
