by zxMarce, 7 years agoInstalled Floccus and registered an account in OwnDrive to backup bookmarks. The addon never synced.
At the left of the "Options" and "Sync Now" buttons it says "X Error!" and immediately below the buttons an error description says "JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data".
No idea what to do, error is not self-explanatory and does not give any hints regarding which JSON is crippled, nor a dump of such file; checked the GitHub site but could not make heads nor tails of the code (not a JS dev, more of a C# and VB.Net one I am).
Checked account "https://my.owndrive.com/" with my username and password and it browses OK. Would like the author to try an OwnDrive account, as they say it supports NextCloud, and post his findings, or at least a basic tutorial on how to set up Floccus with a third-party server, not just with localhost. I am not really sure of the URL to use; tried several (taken from the site being browsed in Firefox) to no avail. I'm sure I'm the one doing something wrong, but there are no good working examples of Floccus setups in the Mozilla not Addon Home pages.
Using FF 59.0.2 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 16.04.

Thanks a lot for the response.
No, I did not enable or install a Bookmarks app, and my guess is that I would have to do that on OwnDrive.
OwnDrive has its own applet that one would drag to FF Bookmarks to upload, but I guess that is not the one you refer to. Also, no versions given.
Can you help me providing an adequate Bookmarks App link? If it has install instructions for third-party servers like OwnDrive, much better.

Also tried Wolkli, does not even have a Bookmarks secction, looks like they removed it.
None of OwnDrive or Wolkli allow adding apps to their free accounts. So the addon isn't any good to me. It could work for people that have their own NextCloud server, but not my case. Too bad.
In view of this, I'll give 4 stars to the addon.

posted 7 years agoHey there, it looks like you don't have the bookmarks app installed, versoin 0.11 of which is required for floccus to work. Please confirm. :)
EDIT: Thanks for your feedback. I can recommend checking one of the providers listed over here: https://nextcloud.com/providers/

- Rated 2 out of 5by undefined, 2 months agoI have around 3000 bookmarks. After restructuring them this extension uses 100% of one CPU core and looks like it hanged (nextcloud backend). Also I can't cancel sync.

- Rated 2 out of 5by Cumbayah!, 4 months agoUse to work great, but recently WebDAV broke and when you try to configure Floccus on new browsers, you just get "Could not connect to your webdav server at the specified URL. The server responded with HTTP status 405 to a PROPFIND request with Basic Auth on the URL you entered." Existing profiles still work.

posted 4 months agoHello!
I'm sorry you are having issues. The error message you are seeing looks like you are using the wrong URL to connect to your webdav server. Nextcloud for example has a specific WebDAV URL that is different from the main nextcloud site. If you need help, I'm happy to help you troubleshoot over on github. - Rated 5 out of 5by dousha99, 4 months ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 12897648, 5 months agoI would like to retract everything I previously wrote. The issue was not caused by the 'Floccus' addon but by the Firefox browser itself.
The addon works properly and efficiently. I had to uninstall and reinstall Firefox from scratch to resolve the issue with logging into Google Drive. I admit I let my emotions get the better of me and was very frustrated, which is why my previous review was so negative.
I want to apologize for my mistake and am now trying to make amends. Hats off to the developer, Marcel Klehr, and my sincere apologies.
Additionally, I’d like to suggest one feature: Firefox allows separators in bookmarks, which Chrome does not support. Perhaps it would be worth considering options like “remove separators,” “ignore separators,” or “convert separators.”
For clarity, I’m leaving my original, negative review below so the context is fully understandable.
### old review below ↓
On Google Chrome, I installed this extension without any problems. I connected to Google Disc and the corresponding file appeared. Unfortunately, importing the profile into Firefox always fails. I deleted all profiles and wanted to reverse the situation. First I wanted to create a profile on Firefox. When logging into my Google account, an error always appeared.
Of course, other extensions or other logins from Firefox to Google account do not end in any error.
I really needed this type of bookmarks synchronizer but it doesn't work for me. I am very sorry, the extension does not meet my expectations. And please do not write in the comments that it is something wrong with me, or that I am too weak, too stupid to manage. It does not work and it should work without any problems. I expect problem-free operation from extensions. Then I make a donation.Developer response
